"FISMA's Facelift: In the Eye of the Beholder?" Report
In October 2009, the Office of Management and Budget released a new online FISMA reporting portal – CyberScope. The Obama administration created CyberScope to streamline the reporting process, enhance analysis, and importantly, reduce the $2.3 billion Feds spend annually on compliance. The deadline for agencies to submit reports via CyberScope was November 15, 2010. MeriTalk surveyed 34 Federal Chief Information Officers and Chief Information Security Officers to understand Feds' perceptions and usage experiences for CyberScope. The FISMA's Facelift: In the Eye of the Beholder? Report reveals that:
- Only 15 percent of Feds have used CyberScope
- Of those who have not used CyberScope, 90 percent do not have a clear understanding of the submission requirements
- 69 percent of those that have not used the tool are unsure if the new approach will result in more secure Federal networks
