Why Encrypt? Federal File Transfer Report
Federal data is not secure. The Federal government spends $7.9B annually on sophisticated cyber security measures, but agencies too often ignore the basics. In April 2010, MeriTalk teamed with Axway to survey 200 Federal IT and information security professionals to understand file transfer practices and importantly, to identify opportunities for file transfer security improvement. "Why Encrypt? Federal File Transfer Report" reveals that:
- Federal employees use unsafe methods to transfer files:
- 66% use physical media (e.g., tapes, CDs, DVDs, USB drives, etc.)
- 60% use File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
- 52% e-mail work files through personal e-mail accounts (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo, etc.)
