Metro Plans White Hat Hacking for New Railcars

D.C. Metro is planning to hack cybersecurity systems over the next few months, but not to worry–they’re hacking their own 7000 Series railcars to determine whether missing cybersecurity measures in the railcar contract left Metro data exposed. By the end of August 2019, Metro will have completed “penetration testing” for the 748 new railcars to be delivered within the next year. “While it is too late to affect the procurement, we will be able to leverage this test to identify any severe cybersecurity vulnerabilities in those cars and begin the process of remediation,” Metro management said.
