The Asia-Pacific region is increasingly falling victim to cyberattacks, supplanting the North American region for most-attacked status, according to an annual report by Trustwave. Attacks by cyber criminals in the Asia-Pacific region make up 35 percent of investigated data compromises last year with the retail sector estimated as the largest victim, at 18 percent of data compromises. The study also found that denial-of-service attacks were responsible for the largest amount of database vulnerabilities across 62 percent of major platforms. No region was found to be completely invulnerable because – for the second straight year – the researchers found that 100 percent of tested web applications had at least one vulnerability and an average of 15 vulnerabilities across tested applications.
