Schumer Queries Army Secretary on TikTok Platform Use

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., sent a Nov. 7 letter to U.S. Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy expressing concern about the use of China-owned social media platforms including TikTok by Army personnel in their personal and official capacities. Sen. Schumer cited concerns expressed over the use of TikTok and other platforms by national security experts, and said he asked the Director of National Intelligence on Oct. 23 to  conduct an assessment of national security risks posed by China-owned content platforms operating in the U.S.  The senator asked the Army Secretary to respond by Dec. 6 with information about whether the Army has consulted with U.S. intelligence agencies and the Department of Homeland Security regarding whether use of TikTok and other China-owned social media platforms poses security risks as platforms for recruitment.
