The National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) is seeking comments on a draft practice guide that explores how multifactor authentication can help reduce fraudulent online purchases. NCCoE has partnered with retail sector stakeholders to develop the NIST Special Publication 1800-17, Multifactor Authentication for E-Commerce. The practice guide “can help organizations reduce online fraudulent purchases, show customers that the organization is committed to its security, help avoid system-administrator-account takeover through phishing, and assist organizations to implement the example solutions” provided in the guide, NIST explained in a release. Comments are due to NIST by October 22and can be submitted via this form.
