In an effort to improve customer experience (CX) in government, the General Services Administration (GSA) will hold a nationwide, day-long hackathon to gather industry insight about GSA applications.
GSA’s Customer Experience Hackathon 2019 is set for June 19, and will focus on addressing CX for both external and internal customers. The hackathon will take place at eight GSA locations across the country – Boston, Chicago, Fort Worth, Kansas City, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.
GSA said participants will hack applications core to GSA operations, and it expects them to include its U.S. Web Design System 2.0 in their solutions. In an initial round of review, judges will choose four winning teams. In a second round, judges will choose an ultimate winner.
Judges will score based on comprehensive application usability, customer emotional response, and ability to provide two-way feedback between the customer and the provider. The second round will have additional criteria – creativity and innovation, as well as the quality of technical capabilities.
There will be four cash prizes totaling at $20,000. The four teams who win in the first judging round will win $2,500 each, and the team that wins the second round will receive the additional $10,000 grand prize.
