The General Services Administration released the proposed list of special item numbers (SINs) and categories for the upcoming consolidated Multiple Award Schedule (MAS), cutting down the number of SINs from over 900 to around 300, the agency announced today in a request for information.
MAS is set to have 12 large categories in place, including information technology, and 86 subcategories along with the around 300 SINs.
“Reorganizing our categories and consolidating our SINs is a big step toward our final goal of a single Schedule. This will be a win-win for our buyers and industry partners. Suppliers will be able to come to the marketplace with their offerings using a solutions-based approach – mirroring the way agencies buy,” said Alan Thomas, commissioner of the Federal Acquisition Service (FAS).
The new SINs match very closely with the existing NAICS codes for products, and include a spreadsheet that matches existing SINs with the new SINs.
“Our SIN descriptions have been rewritten for clarity and duplicate SINs have been consolidated,” said Stephanie Shutt, director of the MAS program management office.
The new SINs and categories are open for comment until July 12.
