The General Services Administration (GSA) and the Defense Department’s (DoD) Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) announced today they are teaming up for a “discovery sprint” as part of GSA’s Centers of Excellence (CoE) initiative.

The joint effort, the agencies said, aims to “accelerate and expand the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) at DoD and help drive wider AI adoption across government.”

“The partnership will focus on JAIC’s mission of accelerating the delivery of AI-enabled capabilities, scaling the department-wide impact of AI, and synchronizing DoD AI activities to expand Joint Force advantages,” they said.

“We believe that the opportunities for applying AI in government are significant,” commented Anil Cheriyan, Director of the Technology Transformation Services (TTS) team at GSA.

“As GSA builds its AI Center of Excellence, the addition of JAIC as our fifth partner agency helps us drive ongoing technology transformation in the federal marketplace,” Cheriyan said. “We’re proud to be seizing the opportunity with our newest partner, enabling AI to bolster the capabilities of today’s warfighter, and build a foundation to reuse our AI expertise to improve citizen experiences across government.”

The agreement with DoD JAIC follows several others that apply the CoE approach to modernization, including partnerships with the Agriculture Department, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of Personnel Management, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
