DHS Issues RFI for Cloud-Based Biometric Processing System Solutions

As the Department of Homeland Security Office of Biometric Identity Management (OBIM) has begun migrating its biometric processing system to the cloud, the office issued a Request for Information (RFI) today to gather information for developing, maintaining, and securing its data on the new cloud environment.

OBIM replaced its legacy biometric processing system, IDENT, with the Homeland Advance Recognition Technology (HART), a cloud-based platform. OBIM’s RFI for HART looks to help the office better prepare for future development and expansion of biometric capabilities.

More specifically, OBIM has requested information asking what solutions industry members have implemented to bolster cloud development and operations in tandem with system security and monitoring, biometric matching capabilities, DevOps, data reporting and analytics, and automated testing.

The RFI also asks for information concerning solutions industry has applied to improve end-user access to biometric processing capabilities on web portals and mobile devices, as well as software tools that have sharper biometric examining than OBIM’s current solutions.

“OBIM plans to upgrade the software tools used by its biometric examiners to resolve identity matches that the cloud-based biometric matching capability could not resolve using fingerprints, facial images, and iris scans,” OBIM said.

OBIM also asked for information that would help it deliver system maintenance across all of its operational systems.

Responses for the RFI are due by July 17.
