Federal civilian employees can expect to officially receive a sizable pay raise in 2024 after President Biden signed an executive order implementing the increases.

Most government employees on the civilian side will receive an average of a 5.2 percent boost to their pay, which will take effect in the first full pay period in January.

President Biden confirmed his intention to give Federal civilian employees a 5.2 percent pay raise in August – making it the largest annual pay raise for Feds in 43 years.

Military members are also set to receive a 5.2 percent pay raise starting in January through the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act.

The 5.2 percent figure for the 2024 Federal pay raise represents an average raise across the government. Depending on where Federal employees are located, the actual raise they’ll see in the new year will be slightly above or below that due to locality pay.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) published the 2024 pay tables on its website, specifying the exact amount of the increases for each locality pay area.

According to OPM, Federal employees’ pay raises nationwide for 2024 range from 4.89 percent for Feds in the Houston locality pay area to 5.7 percent for Feds in the Seattle-Tacoma locality pay area.

Federal employees working in the national capital region will receive a 5.31 percent raise, the agency noted.
