The Treasury Department announced sanctions against 11 entities and individuals involved in cyberattacks by Iranian actors.

The sanctions include two Iran-based networks that are responsible for cyberattacks against U.S. financial systems. The sanctions also target other entities that support the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and provide support to terrorists and support acts of terrorism.

U.S. persons and companies are now prohibited from interacting with these groups and people. Also, any foreign entities that do business with these groups are risking being sentenced to sanctions from the U.S.

“Treasury will continue to take strong actions to counter Iran’s provocations, including support for the IRGC-Qods Force [Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps] and terrorist extremists, the ongoing campaign of violence in Syria, and cyberattacks meant to destabilize the U.S. financial system,” said Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin. “These sanctions target an Iranian company providing material to support IRGC’s ballistic missile program, airlines that support the transport of fighters and weapons to Syria, and hackers who execute cyberattacks on American financial institutions.”
