The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee voted to advance Dale Cabaniss’ nomination to lead the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) on a voice vote Wednesday, despite some opposition from Democrats.

While the nomination passed on a voice vote in committee, four Democratic senators asked to be recorded as voting no: Sens. Gary Peters, D-Mich., Tom Carper, D-Del., Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., and Jacky Rosen, D-Nev.

Cabaniss, who formerly led the Federal Labor Relations Authority from 2001 to 2008, would take the helm of an agency in the midst of a reorganization effort to move OPM under the General Services Administration.

Cabaniss’ nomination will go to the full Senate for approval.
