Sen. Roger Wicker Eyes 5G Hearing

5G wireless infrastructure technology

Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Ala., the new chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, is pushing for a hearing on 5G wireless deployment and said the STREAMLINE Small Cell Deployment Act could be a good jumping off point for the hearing, according to a Politico report. The bipartisan legislation sponsored by Sens. John Thune, R-S.D., and Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, was introduced during the previous Congress but did not become law. “I would expect 5G and privacy to be among the first issues” the committee will explore, Wicker told Politico on Tuesday. “I would hope that [5G] would be one of our first hearings,” he said.
