A group of over 90 local government officials have added their names to a letter supporting a bill from Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Calif. The legislation, the Accelerating Wireless Broadband Development by Empowering Local Communities Act, calls for overturning a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) 5G order. The legislation would overturn the FCC regulations to preempt local rules and allow the local governments to regulate the deployment of 5G wireless infrastructures in local communities. Organized by Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan and San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, the letter is critical of the FCC’s move to preempt local rules on 5G equipment installation.
