The Committee on Oversight and Reform on September 2 approved legislation S.Con.Res.14, the concurrent resolution for the congressional budget of the fiscal year 2022. If passed, it would provide critical funding to electrify government vehicle fleets tackling climate change.
Tackling climate change is a significant priority President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda and S.Con.Res.14 features substantial funding for electrifying Federal vehicle fleets.
Specifically, the legislation would provide $12 billion in funding to position the Federal government as a leader in modernizing vehicles to reduce carbon output, build charging stations and support infrastructure across the country, and take a significant step towards a fully electric future for Federal vehicles.
“Climate change affects us all, and we cannot wait another moment to take decisive action and stop catastrophic damage to our planet. I am proud that the Committee approved historic funding to electrify government vehicles, fund environmental justice, and move towards a greener future for the American people,” Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-NY, the Committee Chairwoman, said in a press release.
Ultimately, reducing the nation’s carbon output and dependence on fossil fuels will help transition the nation to renewable energy resources and make the Federal government a leader in fighting climate change.
