FTC Sets Data Security Hearings For December, February

FTC Federal Trade Commission

The Federal Trade Commission has scheduled hearings for this December, and February 2019, to examine the agency’s authority “to deter unfair and deceptive conduct in data security and privacy matters.”  The December hearings will focus on data security–including incentives to invest in security, consumer demand for security, U.S. legal frameworks for security, and the FTC’s data security enforcement program–and are set for Dec. 11-12 in Washington.  The February hearings will target consumer privacy and are scheduled for Feb. 12-13, also in Washington.  FTC Chairman Joe Simons commented, “The upcoming data security and privacy hearings will provide an opportunity to reexamine the Commission’s work in light of changing technologies, legal regimes, and business models.”
