Nick Andersen, who held senior cybersecurity positions at the Department of Energy (DoE) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) over the past few years, has joined communications services provider Lumen as the chief information security officer for the public sector.
In the new position, Andersen “is responsible for ensuring that Lumen’s cybersecurity and IT products meet the federal government’s strict security requirements and risk management standards,” the company said.
Andersen comes to the new job with extensive Federal and state cybersecurity experience in recent years.
From late 2019 to earlier this year, he worked at DoE with titles of Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER), and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Infrastructure Security and Energy Restoration.
Before that, he was Federal cybersecurity lead and senior cybersecurity advisor to the Federal CIO at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), where he handled “policy development and compliance for cybersecurity initiatives such as the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA), the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP), Trusted Internet Connections (TIC) 3.0 and the Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act (FITARA),” Lumen said.
Andersen also was CISO for the State of Vermont from 2018 to 2019, CIO for U.S. Naval Intelligence from 2106 to 2017, and CIO for Coast Guard Intelligence from 2014 to 2016.
