FCC Commissioner Calls for Quicker Location Data Investigations

FCC

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) needs to conduct speedier investigations into wireless carriers’ handling of customer location data, according to comments made Friday by FCC Commissioner Geoffrey Starks. The commissioner noted that the one-year deadline for acting on those policies is approaching. Last May, the FCC announced that it was investigating allegations of wireless customers’ location data being leaked online and, more recently, 15 senators sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission and FCC calling for the agencies to investigate the sale of wireless customers’ location data to third-party companies.
