The Department of Interior has brought in Alaska’s first statewide CIO, Bill Vajda to fulfill the same role. Vajda had previously held leadership roles at the Internal Revenue Service and the National Security Agency, while also holding the CIO position at the Department of Education, before becoming Alaska’s CIO. He succeeds Sylvia Burns, who stepped down in 2018 to take the deputy CIO for Enterprise Strategy position at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. While in Alaska, Vajda helped create a new IT office that worked to increase efficiency by setting statewide standard. Federal News Network first reported the story.
