President Biden intends to nominate Heidi Shyu, a former assistant secretary of the Army, to serve as the under secretary for research and engineering at the Department of Defense (DoD), the White House announced Wednesday.

If confirmed by the Senate, Shyu would oversee the development of technology strategy for the DoD, developing breakthrough capabilities and next-generation weapons.

Shyu served as the assistant secretary for the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology, ASA(ALT) from 2012 to 2016. Previously, she served as the acting ASA(ALT) and the principal deputy.

Shyu also served in a variety of positions at Raytheon, including vice president of technology strategy for space and airborne systems, corporate vice president of technology and research, vice president and technical director of SAS, and vice president of unmanned and reconnaissance systems.

Currently, Shyu is the CEO of Heidi Shyu Inc., consulting for over a dozen companies. Additionally, she serves as chairman of the board for Plasan North America and sits on the boards of the Aerospace Corporation, Auterion Government Solutions, Catalyze Dallas, Levitate Capital, Levitate Acquisition Corp., Linse Capital, VK Integrated Systems, and the UCLA Dean’s Executive Board.
