The General Services Administration (GSA) recently launched its new big data management platform, Data to Decisions, to address and accomplish open data and transparency goals.

The D2D platform is a governmentwide analytics-as-a-service platform. This platform is cloud based and leverages open source technology designed to collect, manage, and analyze complex data–and to make these analyses available to stakeholders within and outside of GSA.

“Data can be tremendously impactful and we have demonstrated it time and again at GSA,” said Adam Neufeld, GSA deputy administrator. “But to drive to impacts, we need to be deliberate about deploying our resources, training, systems, and talent.”

D2D supports the government’s goal of promoting open data, transparency, and data accessibility. It provides a suite of user-friendly data analytics tools to enable operational-to-executive decision-making using big data and descriptive/prescriptive/predictive analytics methodologies. The platform meets the Federal government’s mandate to use open source technologies and solutions whenever possible.

Key Components of D2D include:

  • Data Collection and Access–A single source for enterprise information management.
  • Data Repository–At customer site, on the cloud, or hybrid.  Data extraction, transformation, and loading will occur at the data repository level.
  • Data Visualization–Lightweight and heavyweight data visualization tools for dashboarding and data exploration.
  • Data Analytics–Advanced analytics to decompose business problems using data.

“D2D is an outstanding example of a holistic approach to data management,” said Neufeld.
