The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has tapped John Brown for a promotion, according to a report from The Hill. Brown, who was previously a special agent in charge of the FBI’s San Diego office, will now serve as the assistant director in the FBI’s counterintelligence division. Brown replaces Bill Priestap, who announced his retirement in December. After serving in the U.S. Army, including deployments to Afghanistan, Brown joined the FBI as a special agent in 1999. During the early part of his FBI career, Brown primarily worked in counterintelligence and was deployed to Iraq in 2004.
