The Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) organization announced it has rolled out facial recognition technology at Mineta San José International Airport (SJC). The new technology, which went into use on June 25,  expedites the international arrivals process at the airport. International arrivals at SJC has more than doubled in the past two years, from 199,900 in 2015 to 438,800 in 2017. CBP also announced that SJC plans to use biometrics for all departing travelers at seven of its gates this fall.  CBP notes that “facial comparison technology is used because it seamlessly integrates into the airport boarding process and is minimally disruptive to the flow of travel.”
