Marine Corps Explores Cloud Migration

The U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) has extended the deadline on a request for information for cloud migration services, with the goal of closing multiple data centers and moving a suite of applications to a commercial cloud environment. The RFI is open until February 20.

The RFI notes that the cloud roadmap for USMC “includes the closure of multiple on premises data centers that support multiple portfolios of applications.” The RFI does not specify the specific applications USMC is looking to migrate, but notes that it would include “a portfolio of applications.”

“The rationalization framework should include methodologies, technical requirements, assessments, and processes to determine an application’s suitability for cloud hosting; to include cost estimates for re-factoring, re-hosting, re-platforming, or re-purchasing as necessary,” the RFI states. “The solution should identify current technologies for enabling automation and gaining efficiency within the migration process.”

In its questions to vendors, USMC asks for companies to describe their methodologies, time estimate, and application rationalization. The RFI also asks about experience with migrating to FedRAMP environments.
