The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently appointed Sanja Basaric as Artificial Intelligence Program Lead in the agency’s Office of the CIO.

Basaric started in the new job in February, and before that ran SVB Consulting LLC – a business development and consulting firm that she founded in 2014. Before that, she was a management consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton.

Before those private sector stints, Basaric was a health policy analyst at the National Institutes of Health from 2007 to 2012.

In a recent social media post, Basaric commented on the agency’s AI strategy. “HHS’s AI strategy emphasizes training and workforce development as a prime focus area,” she said. “It’s a critical first step to scaling AI in a transformational way across the department.”

“Interagency sharing of training initiatives and best practice is also critical in establishing precedent so we don’t have to reinvent the wheel,” she said.
