The U.S. Air Force has tapped Chandra Donelson to serve as the service branch’s acting chief data and artificial intelligence officer within the Office of the Chief Information Officer (CIO).

In her new role, Donelson will oversee “developing and implementing DAF-wide strategies for enterprise data management, analytics, digital transformation, and responsible/ethical artificial intelligence to optimize performance and drive innovation in and across all missions and operations,” the Department of the Air Force (DAF) said.

Along with those new duties, Donelson will continue to serve as space data and artificial intelligence officer at the Pentagon.

“In that position she was responsible for developing and enforcing the service’s data, analytics, and AI strategy and governance policies, providing oversight for data assets, improving data access and use, and fostering a data and AI-driven culture,” the Air Force said.

Prior to taking on that role, she served as deputy chief data officer for the Army G-2 from 2021-2023.
