The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) rolled out a new cloud-based storage system, milDrive, this month, which the agency said make accessing and sharing its information more secure, flexible, and reliable.

With the solution, licensed users with Common Access Cards or Personal Identity Verification credentials can access files on the non-classified Internet Protocol Router Network. Users can also share unclassified and access-controlled files and documents from any device with milDrive.

milDrive users can access the service through web browsers, mobile devices, and desktop apps, and the solution is also compatible with Android and iOS mobile devices.

DISA outlined other benefits that milDrive has, which include its ability to reduce information technology and administrative cost, downsize mail server space requirements, provide full data protection and file self-recovery, and optimize network bandwidth usage. Users can also access data offline with milDrive.

DISA Cloud Storage Program Manager Carissa Landymore said that one of the biggest advantages of the service is how it includes reliability and availability by storing user data into two of DISA’s data center facilities. The sites replicate data to ensure it remains available to the end user.
