Federal agencies have made significant progress in adopting artificial intelligence (AI), moving beyond experimentation to identify meaningful mission applications. As AI capabilities evolve, agencies must redesign the workflows, operations, and governance needed to translate that progress into lasting mission impact.
Coordinated workflows powered by multiple AI agents and enabled through AI orchestration represent the next phase of federal AI. These workflows could improve efficiency, reduce workforce burden, and strengthen mission outcomes. Success will depend on whether agencies can modernize operations, integrate systems, establish governance, and support effective human-AI collaboration.
For The Agentic Future report, MeriTalk, in collaboration with ICF, surveyed 100 IT decision-makers from civilian, defense, and national security agencies to examine how they are preparing for this shift.
Download the research to explore the operational changes agencies are making, the barriers they must overcome, and the actions leaders believe are necessary to make coordinated AI workflows practical, trustworthy, and scalable across the federal enterprise.
