National Cyber Security Alliance

Russell Schrader is the executive director of the National Cyber Security Alliance, the nation’s leading nonprofit, public-private partnership promoting cybersecurity and privacy education and awareness.

Mr. Schrader serves as general counsel and chief privacy officer for Commerce Signals Inc., a startup based in the Bay Area and Charlotte specializing in permissioned sharing of data in a privacy-centric environment.

Mr. Schrader is a former senior vice president and was the first chief privacy officer of Visa Inc. Mr. Schrader was responsible for privacy and data security policies and issues and was a principal legal liaison for financial institutions on regulatory issues. He has written about and taught data and cybersecurity, privacy, payments innovation and electronic commerce issues.

Mr. Schrader holds a J.D. from Duke University, an MBA in finance from New York University and a B.A. from Wake Forest University. He is a member of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee and a former member of the Federal Reserve Board’s Consumer Advisory Committee and the board of directors of the national Council of Better Business Bureaus.

Prior to Visa, Mr. Schrader headed the national consumer group in the legal department of Chase in New York City. He was responsible for legal services to the mortgage, auto, home equity and unsecured lending businesses. He was counsel to one of Chase’s regional banks and provided legal services to its Latin and South American consumer banks.
