Cloud identity management provider Okta has received FedRAMP certification with Department of Justice sponsorship, meeting compliance requirements of more than 300 controls.

“FedRAMP is considered the gold standard, with the most stringent set of security controls for cloud companies,” said Mark Settle, CIO at Okta. “Okta’s achievement of FedRAMP certification will make it easy for government agencies to attain the benefits of the cloud—improved user experience, productivity, security and cost savings—for the public at scale and with great impact.”

According to Settle, cloud capabilities are becoming increasingly important for expanding and enabling application access outside agency networks.

“We talk about the world being always on these days,” said Settle, adding that people need more and more flexibility in accessing applications when not using company devices. “The distinctions between work life and private life have blurred.”

The FedRAMP-authorized service is available on the Amazon Web Services Partner Network (APN) Government Competency Program, and, according to Settle, Okta is the first identity management platform to build capabilities completely on the cloud.

“The cloud continues to be a major catalyst for governments to innovate, become more efficient, and to help secure citizen services. FedRAMP certification enables consistency and confidence in the security of cloud solutions. We are so pleased that APN partner Okta has met the high bar to achieve FedRAMP certification,” said Troy Bertram, general manager of Business Development, Worldwide Public Sector, Amazon Web Services.

Settle said that though the Okta service has received many security certifications, the FedRAMP certification “is one of the more demanding and challenging certifications you can obtain.”
