OMB FDCCI
Federal CIO Steven VanRoekel released a memorandum providing further implementation guidance and an updated schedule of deliverables under the FDCCI.
The Federal CIO Council launched a government-wide Data Center Consolidation Task Force to consolidate and increase efficiencies and to help meet the overall Federal target of a minimum of 800 data center closures by 2015. The Task Force comprises data center program managers, facilities managers, and sustainability officers from 24 agencies that work together to share progress toward individual agency goals. This dataset reflects information provided by the agencies.
In order to help meet the goal of consolidating at least 800 data centers by 2015, this update on the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative (FDCCI) publishes a schedule of deliverables and timeframe for upcoming activities.
The goals of the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative are to assist agencies in identifying their existing data center assets and to formulate consolidation plans that include a technical roadmap and consolidation targets. Throughout the fall of 2010, CIO Council agencies work with OMB to review, adjust and finalize data center consolidation plans.
The reported number of Federal data centers grew from 432 in 1998 to more than 1,100 in 2009. This growth in redundant infrastructure investments is costly, inefficient, unsustainable, and has a significant impact on energy consumption. The Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative aims to address these challenges by leveraging best practices in the public and private sector.
