Product Recall Collaboration Zone to be officially introduced to the industry at the GS1 US U Connect Conference in Dallas, TX on June 10 DALLAS--Recent product recalls worldwide have forced businesses to re-assess their current recall operating procedures and to look for new ways to improve existing recall efforts to ensure consumer safety. In response, GS1 US and the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) have developed the Product Recall Collaboration Zone, an online tool developed using best practices and Food & Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines, to facilitate and standardize industry recall notifications between trading partners. The new recall traceability solution will be announced on June 10 at the U Connect Conference. Produced and presented by GS1 US and the Voluntary Interindustry Commerce Solutions (VICS) Association, U Connect 08, themed New Ways of Working Together, is focused on helping companies and their trading partners find new ways to collaborate and remove supply chain barriers and disruptions to efficient commerce. The conference takes place June 9-12, at the Gaylord Texan in Dallas, TX. “The Product Recall Collaboration Zone represents a significant step forward in managing product recalls and voluntary withdrawals in an efficient, timely manner consistent with industry best practices,” said Bob Noe, senior vice president, GS1 US. “We believe that the tool will deliver the most comprehensive, efficient recall solution available, providing complete authenticated recall information to appropriate contacts in real time, around the clock.” The Product Recall Collaboration Zone allows trading partners the ability to initiate, target, deliver and receive comprehensive recalls immediately through a single portal, which will make it one of the most comprehensive and efficient recall traceability solutions available. “In our industry consumer safety is paramount and this tool will enable suppliers to easily communicate detailed recall product information to retailers and wholesalers, which will allow for the quick removal of potentially harmful recalled or withdrawn products from store shelves,” said Pat Walsh, vice president of industry trade and development, FMI. “The standardization of this electronic recall process also virtually eliminates any key entry errors that can occur during the manual transmission of data.” Tested by more than 25 companies, both large and small, to ensure that it meets industry needs, the easy to use application will complement the many existing recall protocols that are used today. The Product Recall Collaboration Zone features user authentication as well as a database of retail company coordinators who will receive the information. The Product Recall Collaboration Zone also features: An enhanced online recall form The online form was developed from industry best practices and recommended Food & Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines. Details include complete contact information and handling instructions which results in improved outcomes for all trading partners. Product images and documentation Product images can be easily embedded in the recall form and supporting documentation can be attached and accessed directly from the recall form which allows retailers and wholesalers the ability to receive more detailed and accurate information. Targeted recall delivery Recall issuers can target recipients in any way they choose by creating custom rules and can schedule recall delivery at a date and time of their choosing. Enhanced traceability processes The tool provides the most advanced recall traceability solution available. Recall issuers know who received a recall message and when. More importantly, the software records when recall messages are read. “The Product Recall Collaboration Zone is a result of hard work and collaboration of the two leading organizations in the grocery industry, FMI and GS1 US,” said Noe. “We are looking forward to introducing it at this year’s U Connect and expect that we will be able to expand the tool for use in other industries in the future.” U Connect is the one conference where trading partners come to find new ways of working together, meet and build stronger business relationships, and learn about supply chain issues confronting their businesses today. Serving the educational and networking needs of those who work in B2B collaboration, marketing and sales, manufacturing, quality and safety, and transportation and logistics, U Connect offers something for companies of all sizes using barcodes, collaborative commerce, data synchronization, electronic commerce, or Electronic Product Code/Radio Frequency Identification (EPC/RFID) technology. Unique Support for High Definition, Standard Definition and Desktop Video Sets RADVISION Apart in the Industry PALO ALTO, Calif.--Based on its recent analysis of the videoconferencing infrastructure systems market, Frost & Sullivan presents RADVISION with the 2008 North American Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Differentiation Innovation. RADVISION has set itself apart from its competition by leveraging its existing technology assets to introduce SCOPIA Desktop in combination with SCOPIA multi-point control unit (MCU) and the rest of the SCOPIA infrastructure suite. Overall, RADVISION is using its standards-based open-architecture solution and innovative OEM strategy, as well as leveraging existing technology assets to cater to the needs of the evolving market. RADVISION has been in step with the market and recognizes the need to support a wide variety of devices and networks as the visual communications market evolves. This includes the need to support high definition (HD) by introducing HD-capable MCUs that also optimally support the older-generation standard definition (SD) endpoints and desktop video including support for solutions from companies like Microsoft, IBM and Cisco. The company’s customers can employ both HD and standard definition (SD) endpoints in the same call without all participants having to downgrade to their common capabilities. More importantly, customers do not have to pay full HD price for each port that they deploy. This is a huge advantage in a market that will be an installed base of mixed SD and HD endpoints for the next two years at least. Further, the company is using its SCOPIA Desktop technology to enable desktop-based remote users to optimally connect to conferences that also include room-based videoconferencing systems, executive desktop systems, and 3G mobile devices. It achieves this by leveraging the transcoding and HD Continuous Presence (CP) capabilities of the underlying SCOPIA MCU and by utilizing the desktop conferencing capabilities of their Click to Meet technology. SCOPIA Desktop capabilities have also been integrated into Microsoft’s Office Communications Server 2007 and IBM Lotus Sametime collaboration solutions extending the capabilities of those solutions. While most comparable products either cannot support full data collaboration capabilities to the desktop or are unable to involve traditional videoconferencing endpoints optimally, SCOPIA Desktop extends full audio, video, and data collaboration capabilities to even remote users. The launch of the SCOPIA Desktop is timely, considering the boom in the number of teleworkers and mobile employees. Videoconferencing vendors will especially notice huge potential in the market for remote workers due to the pervasiveness of broadband connections. With almost 100 million U.S. workers expected to telework by 2010, vendors should be looking to develop solutions that have freely distributable software clients, have built-in firewall traversal capability, is easily installable, and provides data collaboration and video features that are compatible with other video conferencing devices. RADVISION has addressed all those needs with its SCOPIA Desktop. “SCOPIA Desktop is a Web-based plug-in client with built-in firewall traversal that can be used by anyone inside or outside the enterprise firewall and has integrated streaming capabilities,” says Roopam Jain Frost & Sullivan’s Principal Analyst - Conferencing & Collaboration. “Further, all management and scheduling features that the SCOPIA hardware MCU possesses can be extended to SCOPIA Desktop - a feature that is unique in the market.” This feature ensures that businesses do not have to deploy separate management, firewall traversal, scheduling, and streaming solutions for employees that use desktop PC-based videoconferencing. Meanwhile, the bundling of SCOPIA Desktop with the SCOPIA MCU has expanded the market for the SCOPIA hardware MCU, since this combined solution serves both the conference room market as well as desktop users. RADVISION’s technology has been distinct enough to earn the company the distinction of being the primary supplier of videoconferencing technology to Cisco. “RADVISION’s product relationship with Cisco is also contributing to its continued differentiation in the market,” notes Jain. “Cisco’s aggressive focus on unified communications and its close OEM relationship with RADVISION will enable the latter to rapidly move into the unified communications paradigm.” Each year Frost & Sullivan presents this Award to the company that has best demonstrated the ability to develop and/or advance products with more innovative capabilities than competing vendors and products. The Award recognizes the company’s successful adoption of new or existing technology that has become a part of its well-designed product family. Such innovation is expected to significantly contribute to the industry in terms of product performance and degree/rate of technical change. Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry. About RADVISION RADVISION (Nasdaq: RVSN) is the industry’s leading provider of market-proven products and technologies for unified visual communications over IP, 3G and IMS networks.
